House Cleaning Tips

How to Keep Your Home Clean – I in a Series

After you have worked hard cleaning your home, would you like for it to stay that way for a while?  Read these hints for keeping your home clean and organized after you spent the energy to get it in tip - top shape.

The clue to housecleaning and organizing is to develop a system that works for you to maintain what you have accomplished.  Consider these factors when doing your best to keep your home clean.

1. Wipe the spills and spots out of your refrigerator once a day when you do dishes.

2. Pull leftovers you aren’t going to use each day and rinse and wash the dishes.

3. Wipe and sanitize counters when you are doing the dishes. Counters can be a place where many germs collect. They can contaminate food and people.

4. Wipe the places of your washing machine that collect laundry detergent and dirt after you take the clothes out.  This buildup is the main cause washing machines require maintenance calls. Your washing machine will last a lot longer if you keep the rims of your tub and lid clean.

5. Check and clean your dryer lint filter regularly. This ensures your dryer is running efficiently and keep dust down in your laundry room.

6. After you take clothes out of the dryer, wipe the inside of the dryer door with a damp cloth to collect link and dirt and prevent lint from dropping on the floor and going under the dryer.

7. Each evening make a clean swipe with cleaner on bathroom counters and fixtures to keep it fresh and germ – free. I use Windex® and it works great. The clean smell will be great too.

8. While you’re doing the counters, clean the spots off the mirrors. Spots make a bathroom look unsanitary, even if it was just cleaned.

9. Keep the toilet(s) flushed and utilize an automatic bowl cleaner.  This will keep the germs down and help your toilet look fresh longer.

10. Dry shower door off or pull shower curtains back across the rod ¾ of the way, when done showering so the water can drip off inhibiting mold and mildew.

Have family members work together as a team and you will easily achieve your goal of keeping your home clean and orderly. If everybody joins in, all of these daily maintenance tasks can be completed within 20 minutes.  You will be happy to see how well the morning flows and you will notice there is a clean and organized environment everyday.  An additional benefit to this method is the next time you thoroughly clean, it will go faster because you are not cleaning up a disaster! Check back for Series II.
